KataLog helps our community return to the moments that matter, so we can keep learning, improving, and carrying the tradition forward.

Why We Built KataLog

In every class, instructors share dozens of important details: stances, transitions, timing, and subtle movements that can make all the difference. Once class ends, however, those details can be easy to forget.

KataLog was created to capture and organize these moments, giving students a simple way to return to them anytime, review with clarity, and come back to the mat better prepared.

Our Dojo

Chow-Hoon Goshin Jitsu

Chow-Hoon Goshin Jitsu is a traditional martial arts system founded by Professor John Chow Hoon, combining techniques and principles from multiple martial traditions.

Our dojo continues his legacy through an emphasis on respect, discipline, practical self-defense, and the constant pursuit of improvement.

Learning, Preservation, Lineage

Learning, Preservation, Lineage.

Martial arts are passed from teacher to student through demonstration, practice, correction, and repetition.

KataLog supports this tradition by preserving the important details of each lesson. Students can revisit what they learned, deepen their understanding, and continue training with greater confidence beyond the dojo.

You are richer today than you were yesterday if you have laughed often, give something, forgiven even more, made a new friend, made stepping stones out of stumbling blocks, if you have thought more in terms of 'THYSELF' than 'MYSELF', or if you have managed to be cheerful even though you were weary.— Professor John Chow-Hoon

Who Made KataLog

A Project by Max Ziyang Xu

KataLog was created by Max, a student of Chow-Hoon Goshin Jitsu and a lifelong learner.

After years of classes and countless hours reviewing training videos, Max noticed a simple problem: finding the right moment in a long video should not be difficult.

He built KataLog to make those moments easier to find and revisit, first for himself, then for his training partners, and ultimately for the entire dojo community.
